This gallery takes us from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon via the Hoover Dam (112degrees F) and the old Route 66. Some of you may remember the TV Series "Route 66" or the saying, "Get your kicks on Route 66". The fun part for me was taking a trip down memory lane. Route 66 used to be the only way to go from St. Louis to Las Angeles and I last took the trip in 1965. What was amazing is that is hasn't changed that much and many of the old watering holes still exist -- mostly unchanged and often filled with memorabilia of old Americana. There are still Burma Shave Signs spaced a mile apart and fun people to meet along the way. Route 66 is no longer the main southern route so those who take it do so as a preferred destination. At our first stop we met a motorcyclist who came from Belgium and was taking a year to drive from Vancouver, Canada, to Route 66, Mexico, Central America, and South America. His plan is to finish at the southern most point of Chile. Also of interest along Route 66, is Radiator Springs the inspiration for the Pixar/Disney movie "CARS". At Radiator Springs we saw some of the original vehicles that inspired the characters in the movie: Mater, the buck toothed tow truck that drove backwards (Larry the Cable Guy), the race car, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), and Doc Hudson, the car that steered right to go left (Paul Newman), the fire engine and the Italian service vehicle. Still on Route 66 we stayed at the Romney Motel in Seligman, AZ and enjoyed meeting the owners and a sister and brother who were visiting from the Netherlands. And, yes, the Romney Motel was built some years ago by one of Mitt Romney's relatives.
