On this trip New Orleans was a detour on our way from Venice, FL to Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak. As we entered the city we were welcomed by extraordinary and menacing cloud formations that led to an intense rainstorm. The blessing was that we were able to drive down Bourbon Street (the center of the annual Mardi Gras celebration) without being harassed by pedestrians who typically occupy every square foot of its length. It was touch and go on a couple of occasions, but we managed to get through unscathed. Bourbon Street attracts tourists from all over the world who gawk at a very wide range of characters who can be found there 24/7. We were not disappointed but were somewhat conservative in our picture taking as we did not want to provoke any encounters. The video clips capture some of the feel of the experience especially the live music that never ends.
From Bourbon Street we continued our tour of the French Quarter ending our visit at the Super Bowl before heading to Baton Rouge on our way to Texas.
