Join Bob and Pam as they photograph the first Myopia Sled Dog event held in Massachusetts since 1963.

As you can see it is a great place to bring the family. Keep in mind that although the dogs are very friendly (they really are), it is important to view the event with safety in mind. The dogs are powerful and sometimes things can get out of hand--like when a "Musher" takes a wrong turn and then tries to correct the situation. Beginning at image 175 there is a sequence where a Sled Dog Team takes the wrong turn and almost runs right over an 86 year old man (Ed, pictured with Bob at the end of the sequence. He was not seriously hurt because the dogs did not touch him and the Musher tipped the sled to narrowly miss his head). The Musher stopped the sled. Bob went to the two lead dogs and began pulling them down to the right trail. The collar of one of the lead dogs slipped off. The Musher came forward to help and Pam took the sled. The Musher got the collar on, Bob took a picture of Pam, and the dogs bolted knocking Bob down (not pictured) and repeating the sequence with Ed. Neither Bob nor Ed were hurt--much! The disturbance created a commotion with the next Sled Dog Team and the Musher asked Pam to take that sled (pictured) while he untangled his dogs. Finally, they took off and we were able to relflect on what had just happened. We knew Sled Dog Racing was exciting for the participants, now we know it can exciting for on-lookers as well.
