Petrified Forest National Park is located in Navajo and Apache counties in northeastern Arizona. It is about 26 miles east of Holbrook, AZ along Interstate I-40. Many drive by it on the way to other destinations, but for us it was one of the highlights of the trip. In terms of beauty, the landscape is second to none. Many have commented that it rivals the Grand Canyon as a place to visit. Aside from the landscape, it is known for its fossils, especially fallen trees that some scientists believe lived 225 million years ago. One of the unexpected treats was a sunset with an old abandoned 1930's car in the foreground.
