This 16th gallery of our 2019 Road Trip takes us from Casper, WY to Rapid City, SD.

This was mostly a day of driving, but we did take several side trips along the way. We took an excursion through Ayers Natural Bridge State Park, stopped in Carson, SD for lunch at Bobkat's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Pie Shop (A place we could not pass as Bob was the original "Bobcat" at Bates College in the 1960's), and an aborted attempt to take the wildlife loop at Custer State Park. After driving for miles on a very dusty dirt road the way was blocked and we had to turn around (See pictures of dirt on the back bumper and aluminum wheels of the car.)

The most memorable part of the day was the changing weather which became so bad that we had to pull over to avoid hail the size of marbles. The cloud cover was so thick that it was dark at 5PM (sunset after 8PM). After the hail we stopped early and went to the nearest Super 8 where we had made reservations. When we arrived the Super 8 was abandoned causing us to think that we had been scammed. We finally found that the Super 8 had been relocated to an address on the other side of Rapid City.
