This gallery is of one of our favorite areas, Acadia North. Most people are aware that Acadia National Park is adjacent to Bar Harbor, ME, but few know that ANP has two other locations, one south on the Isle of Haut, and the other north near Winter Harbor. This gallery captures some of the magic of Acadia North. It begins for us with the realization that we are in the area but are late and can not find a motel that will allow dogs. At dusk we entered Winter Harbor and saw a sign advertising the Winter Harbor Inn, a Bed and Breakfast. Neither of us had ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and what were the chances that there would be a room available at the height of the tourist season...one that would welcome a dog. Well, Someone was looking out for us. Not only did they have an available room, but they specialized in dogs with a Dog Grooming side business. We were welcomed with open arms and found the Inn to be one of the best places we have ever stayed--anywhere. Immaculate, beautifully furnished, full kitchen, entertainment room and a back door that leads to a dog friendly back yard complete with doggy toys and poop bags. Leave your room, open the back door and let your pooch loose to run where he may. Perfect.
Acadia North has a special feel to it that others have noticed as well. It is quiet and often covered with a gossamer veil of fog that gives the beautiful coastline a mysterious appearance. Wildlife abounds and the harbors have great restaurants to enjoy.
