Telos, Chamberlain Lake (Locomotives)
This gallery is of a canoe trip involving Nan, Bob, Don, Tay, George, Al & Dale Railsback, the Brown family and Thor the dog. It started with orientation in Wellesley which involved safety on Morse's Pond, overnight in tents and packing. The next night was spent in the backyard of Prof. Niehaus, a Bates professor, who invited us to his farm at New Gloucester, ME.
The trip continued to Telos Lake in the wilderness of ME. We paddled Telos and then went up Chamberlain Lake where there are two Russian Locomotives abandoned in the woods. These trains were imported for the logging industry because of their size and large capacity. Unfortunately, because the gauge of their tracks is wider than the American standard, they were abandoned when the logging industry switched over to trucks.

After the locomotives we hiked mud pond carry to Mud Pond. Some years earlier I was on a trip that actually portaged that section. Hiking is a lot more enjoyable.
Next we paddled north on Chamberlain Lake and paddled/dragged the canoes up Allagash Stream to Allagash Lake.

One entertaining contributor to the trip was Thor, our Siberian Husky. Thor loved riding on anyone's canoe when not swimming behind us.

The trip had one unfortunate incident. Dale Railsback spilled boiling water on herself requiring Al to bring her to a hospital --many miles of dirt road away.
