This section of our trip was unexpectedly eventful. After a long day travelling from Rescue, CA and through Yosemite National Park we decided to keep going after finding Yosemite campsites to be full. Along the way we crossed the Tioga Pass, saw a moon rise from behind Half Dome, saw a Stag cross our path and then searching for a campsite that was not full. After midnight we finally found an open campsite where we pitched our tent in the dark. At sunrise we found that we were in a very special place that only charged seniors $2.50 for overnight camping. In our search for breakfast we wandered into a town called "Tom's Place" which Pam's son, Tom, would have loved. Next we drove about 100 miles over a curvy canyon pass that provided some very entertaining driving (see videos at the end of the gallery). While stopping at a watering hole in Death Valley we encountered a couple who were driving a 1939 Chevy Truck. On the outside it looked old and rusted but low profile tires gave it away. Inside it had a racing Corvette engine with a modern suspension system. They had just come from the Bonneville Salt Flats where they had had some fun testing their vehicle. Later we encountered them on the road to Las Vegas where we spent the night walking around and taking in the excitement around the Golden Nugget Casino.
